Scenario
Four turbulent decades during the Troubles in Northern Ireland
The real-life Dolours Price was married for two decades (1983-2003) to Irish actor Stephen Rea.
During that time, Rea appeared in the film for which she is probably best known in the US: the 1992 romantic thriller The Crying Game
In that film, Rea plays Fergus, an extremely rebellious and ambivalent member of the Irish Republican Army (IRA) – the same organization that Price had been involved with for many years.
I highly recommend reading the book for more context/information, but the series does a fantastic job of covering the material across the different eras of the main characters
The bigger themes, in my opinion, are: -in war, everyone thinks they’re on the right side -how far you’ll go for what you believe in, and what happens when that belief is tested or undermined -the war’s sacrificial pawns, who bear the most risk, are ultimately easily eliminated -the greater "silence" in communities sometimes goes too far -the spoils of war usually go to bureaucrats, not soldiers.
