Scenario
Claire Beauchamp Randall, a World War II nurse, mysteriously travels back in time to Scotland in 1743. There, she meets a dashing Highland warrior and finds herself drawn into an epic rebellion. Moore (the developer of the television series), his team decided to keep the Gaelic words instead of translating them into English. This helped maintain the first-person narrative by showing Claire’s inability to understand Gaelic.
The opening song changes from season to season to reflect what is happening in the plot
This idea was suggested by producer David Brown, who said he saw something similar in Skin Deep (1998), an alternative foreign film starring actor and singer Gustavo Goulart. In a few episodes, the characters say “OK.” An American term that did not come into use until the 19th century. In the first half of season 2 (which is set in France), some of the lyrics are in French. In the second half of season 2 (which is mostly about preparing for war), a militaristic drum roll is added to the opening song.

In season 3, tribal drums are added as much of the season is set in the West Indies. In season 4, bluegrass fiddle and banjos are added, and some lyrics are sung in a southern accent as the season is mostly set in America. I’m late to this series and managed to binge-watch all the way to season 7A in a month.
But my goodness, the beginning of season 3 was a drag
The first 2 seasons feel like a completely different show, it keeps me hooked and wanting one more episode. I know a lot of people don’t like Richard but man I love him as Roger, he just brings a realism to the character for me. Sophie however comes across as a drama student who tries too hard to play a spoiled brat. Her scenes are downright painful to watch and there’s no chemistry between her and Richard, and man whose idea was that terrible accent?
