Evildsen filmed the tournament footage from multiple angles
Scenario
A decade after their match at the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, middle-aged Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence find themselves once again as martial arts rivals. While filming the original Karate Kid, the late director John G. The Cobra Kai crew scoured the studio’s vault and found a number of previously unseen clips that they were able to incorporate into the series using flashbacks. One of them features Zabka’s real-life mother in the stands from different angles that weren’t seen until 2018.
It was shown to be Narioshi
Ralph Macchio told Uproxx that there are three completely new angles to the famous crane kick. Many believe that Miyagi’s name on his tombstone is a continuity error, as in Karate Kid 4 (1994) his name is listed as Keisuke, but it was actually previously on the plaque that Chozen kept for him in Karate Kid 2 (1986). This means that The Next Karate Kid changed its name, while Cobra Kai kept the name previously given to him. However, another interesting fact is that the name given in Karate Kid Part II was not the original name given to Miyagi.
After watching a few episodes, I can say that they hit the spot
In the movie The Karate Kid (1984), Miyagi’s name tags attached to the keys to a 1948 Ford given to Daniel for his birthday appeared as Hideo, featured on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon with Anthony Mackie/Ralph Macchio/Kyrie Shabazz (2018). I was a teenager in the 80s and loved watching this movie, as did most guys my age. I was a little skeptical when I saw that they were making a new series that takes place 30 years after the end of the movie. But as soon as I saw the trailers, I felt like they were on to something.
It’s the best show ever
It’s not overplayed (or underplayed). It’s not corny or silly. It’s a great mix of seriousness with a few jokes or 80s references thrown in here and there. This revival could have been a disaster, but it seems like they found a great combination of writers, directors, and actors.
But as a 40-year-old, I feel a little sorry for him
It’s funny because when I was a kid, I wanted to punch Johnny in the throat as hard as I could. Great job by the people responsible for this, and of course, it couldn’t have happened without Ralph and William. Thanks!
